"My father imigrated from the Halsingland area in 1913. I remember him telling stories about his childhood home in Sweden and I had always wanted to visit his hometown. I was unable to make the visit until I was in my fifties. I had to have help with the research and needed someone from the area to do the background work. Finally, in 2004, I was able to make the trip.
It was like going back in time. Many of the houses that were standing when my father was a young man, were still there. If he could have been with me, it would have all been immediately familiar to him. I was able to visit my Swedish grandfather's gravesite, a grandfather I was unable to meet when he was alive. I was fortunate to still have cousins living in the area, that I met for the first time. It was the best journey I have ever made."
